Welcome home!!!! I hope you enjoy your new Maltese baby!
Your Maltese puppy is eating: BLUE BUFFALO OR CANIDAE dry puppy chow; about 1/3 cup 3X per day mixed with a spoonful of canned MAX puppy or PEDIGREE puppy food or PEDIGREE LITTLE CHAMPION pouches. I give them NUVET LABS NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS daily: (1/2 wafer broken into food). I add ANGEL EYES to the food daily to prevent tear staining. The Good Life wholesome treats are for training: (break into tiny pieces). Pork is better digested than rawhide for chewing treats. When it gets small and soft throw it away to avoid a choking hazard.
TABLE SCRAPS ARE BAD FOR PUPPIES AND DOGS.
Puppies should always have access to fresh water.
I send home Albon for the puppy to be given daily until finished. Often when a puppy goes home he will get coccidia, which can cause diarrhea. It is triggered by the stress of going to a new home.
I use REVOLUTION on my dogs to prevent parasite problems including fleas, heart-worm.
I recommend keeping a tube of NUTRI-STAT OR NUTRI-CAL on hand for stressful situations to prevent hypoglycemia. Give about 1/2 teaspoon of it on the tongue. Honey will work too.
Don't forget to "puppy-proof" your home to protect your puppy from dangers, and your home from a puppy who likes to chew on things!
I use a mild tear-less puppy shampoo for bathing, occasionally a whitening shampoo. "The Stuff" is great for brushing the coat and keeping it clean. Use ear cleaner when you bath puppy to keep them clean. Clip nails every week or two.
Your puppy needs to be house trained, but wants to please you. Be patient. Puppy can't control for long periods until he grows a little.
Never leave a dog in a car even on slightly warm days, as the temperature inside the car can go up to 40% above the outside temperature.
Bring the puppies medical record with you to vet appointments to keep him/her on schedule for shots and worming
Try not to let the puppy get over stimulated when it first comes home.
If you ever have questions or concerns about your puppy call me anytime, day or night. I have spent three months raising your puppy, and care very much about him/her! I would always love to hear how the puppy is doing.
